Flat lens without optical axis: Theory of imaging.
We derive a general theory for imaging by a flat lens without optical axis. We show that the condition for imaging requires a material having elliptic dispersion relations with negative group refraction. This medium is characterized by two intrinsic parameters sigma and kappa. Imaging can be achieved with both negative and positive wave vector refraction if sigma is a positive constant. The Ves...
متن کاملSub-wavelength imaging with a left-handed material flat lens
We study numerically, by means of the pseudospectral time-domain method, the unique features of imaging by a flat lens made of a left-handed metamaterial that possesses the property of negative refraction. We confirm the earlier finding that a left-handed flat lens can provide near-perfect imaging of a point source and a pair of point sources with clear evidence of subwavelength resolution. We ...
متن کاملImaging without fluorescence: nonlinear optical microscopy for quantitative cellular imaging.
Quantitative single-cell analysis enables the characterization of cellular systems with a level of detail that cannot be achieved with ensemble measurement. In this Feature we explore quantitative cellular imaging applications with nonlinear microscopy techniques. We first offer an introductory tutorial on nonlinear optical processes and then survey a range of techniques that have proven to be ...
متن کاملA super-oscillatory lens optical microscope for subwavelength imaging.
The past decade has seen an intensive effort to achieve optical imaging resolution beyond the diffraction limit. Apart from the Pendry-Veselago negative index superlens, implementation of which in optics faces challenges of losses and as yet unattainable fabrication finesse, other super-resolution approaches necessitate the lens either to be in the near proximity of the object or manufactured o...
متن کاملNircam Pupil Imaging Lens Mechanism and Optical Design
The Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) instrument for NASA’s James Webb Space telescope (JWST) is one of four science instruments to be installed into the integrated science instrument module (ISIM) on JWST for the purpose of conducting scientific observations over a five year mission lifetime. NIRCam is required to operate at 37 Kelvin to produce high resolution images in two-wave bands ranging fro...
